What some of the Arab nations want is for us to do their dirty business for them. This is what I think would compel them to offer to foot the entire bill for an intervention in Syria. My basic wish is that we wouldn’t intervene in Syria, but OTOH, I can’t ignore the fact that Assad used Sarin gas on his own citizens, or the possibility that if nothing is done, he’ll take a lack of action as permission to use chemical weapons on his own citizens again and maybe on citizens in other countries. Tough call.

If the US ends up not taking action in Syria, Assad will no doubt continue with atrocities. Eventually the UN must act or lose what legitimacy it has left.

Why don’t the Saudi money men put their money where their mouth is so to speak and do the footwork. Personally I think because having the U.S. invade kills two birds with one stone: The U.S. loses diplomatically, in the U.N. and elsewhere, strengthening the non-aligned bloc; and, they don’t risk anything on a military gamble. I may be biased, no I am, but it’s funny that people will still blame the Syria endeavour as a function of the Israel lobby. Blind.

They don’t want to be seen attacking another Arab country. It’s ok if it gets done, as long as they can pretend they had nothing to do with it. I have to say that I am torn by this announcement of Kerry’s. I am glad that he’s being honest, but are they ever going to trust him at all, ever again? Ever?
